core scanning service - reflective original scanning
What this service is for

Reflective originals require a different approach from film because the image is carried on the visible surface of the object itself. This means that tonal rendering, surface behaviour, material condition and physical handling all influence the scanning workflow.

Depending on the type of original, its size, surface texture and intended use, we choose the most suitable capture path and file-preparation approach. The aim is to produce a controlled and useful file while respecting the physical character of the original.

  • Suitable for prints, photographs, Polaroids and paper-based originals,
  • Workflow selected according to surface, size and condition,
  • Tonal accuracy and surface character handled with care,
  • Output prepared for archive, publication, reproduction or print
Available capture options
Depending on the original, the workflow may involve selected flatbed capture paths and further file preparation matched to archive, reproduction or print use.
core service - Reflective Original Scanning
From inspection to final files
Each reflective-original project follows a controlled workflow adapted to material type, surface behaviour and intended use.
step
1
Intake and Original Inspection
The original is identified and checked for size, material type, condition and visible handling risks.
step
2
Condition Review and Preparation
Surface condition, fragility and physical stability are reviewed before capture begins.
step
3
Surface Preparation
Loose dust and removable surface contamination are reduced where the material allows it.
step
4
Scanner Setup and Positioning
The original is positioned for the selected capture method according to size, surface and condition.
step
5
Calibration and Test Capture
Test scans help confirm tonal behaviour, framing and practical settings before final capture.
step
6
High-Resolution Capture
The final scan is produced with settings matched to the original and its intended use.
step
7
File Preparation and Review
Files are reviewed, organised and prepared according to archive, publication or print requirements
step
8
Delivery and Return Handling
Final files are delivered in the agreed form, and originals are repacked for safe return or storage.
Typical originals for this workflow
  • Photographic prints and paper photographs,
  • Polaroids and other instant originals,
  • Printed images and paper-based archive material,
  • Reflective originals requiring archive, publication or print output
What you receive
The delivered files are prepared according to the intended role of the scan. Depending on the project, this may include archival master files, structured delivery for collections, or files prepared for publication, reproduction or print.
Where required, the workflow can continue into retouching, cleanup or print-oriented preparation without losing continuity between capture and final output.
  • Files prepared according to archive, publication, reproduction or print use,
  • Structured delivery for individual items or larger groups,
  • Further retouching available where appropriate,
  • Output decisions matched to the role of the original, not treated as generic defaults
