For high-resolution scanning, the physical condition of the film matters almost as much as the scanner itself. A well-preserved original is easier to handle safely, easier to inspect accurately and more likely to produce a clean and consistent result.
This is especially important with valuable, fragile or ageing film. In such cases, preparation is not a separate administrative step. It is part of the scanning workflow.
